Product Overview

Front Magazine Clip & Pillar Kit

The kit contains the Front Magazine Clip and the front and rear pillars for mounting a Boyds stock to a Savage Axis rifle.  The kit also fits the Savage Axis II XP Hardwood stock.

The Front Magazine Clip is CNC milled from 6061 aluminum and replaces the plastic front mounting clip included with a Boyds Stock.  Replacing the plastic mounting clip allows you to properly torque down the front mounting fastener.  The bottom insert on the mounting clip is removed to allow proper pillar bedding of the stock.  The front pillar is .27" ID x .375" OD x .5" long.  The rear pillar is .27" ID x .375" OD x 1" long.

Using the pillars will require some fitting (drilling the mounting holes in the stock, and cutting or filing the pillars to the correct length).  The thickness of the Boyds stock can vary, so customize the length of the pillars to fit your particular stock.  If unsure, installation by a qualified gunsmith is recommended. It is recommended to replace the plastic trigger guard.

Get rid of the plastic and add pillars for a good solid mount!

Nicely made parts that fit great. Black anodize would be good addition to Mag Clip as well as some instructions for the pillar installation

Well made, perfect fit. Pillars need minimal trimming. Well worth replacing the plastic clip that Boyd's supplies.

    High Quality Parts

Posted by Sam on Dec 8th 2017

All three items were crafted with high quality. I did have to file them down a bit but that was expected. Also by doing so they are custom fitted to my new Boyd stock. Color match was perfect with my stainless barrel and receiver. I would have liked to see some notches pre-cut in the pillars but my file made short work of that. This is the only way to go if you need to pillar bed a savage axis!!

    Savage clip and pillar kit

Posted by Critter on Nov 29th 2017

Nice kit. Wish it was available in black! Sleeves were a little long, just enough to be fitted, easy with a drill and file. I chose to radius the top of the front pillar for more contact with the receiver. There was length for the radius plus a little for a perfect trim length. The star of this kit it the clip, it solves all of the issues with the plastic one there comes with the stock. Magazine inserts easily with a solid click, and comes out just as easily. The feel when you tighten the action screws inspires confidence, no more crushing wood and compressing plastic, just solid metal to metal torque. I also replaced the plastic trigger guard.

Perfect fit for savage axis in a boyds stock. ...

Posted by Walt Morgan on Oct 24th 2016

I saw this on youtube so I ordered one. The plastic part in the boyds stock cracks and breaks if you torque the bolts to spec. This is a perfect fit and works great. Maybe you should contact boyds and sell them a few thousand.
